Method Statements

What is a Method Statement?

Method Statements are also known as safe systems of work. It describes in a logical sequence exactly how a job is to be carried out in a safe manner and without risks to health, such as working from heights, demolition or lifting operations.

A method statement template should include:

  • Sequence of process
  • Scope of the work
  • Relevant permits
  • Details of other necessary health and safety documents & measures
  • The construction sites equipment & set-up
  • Training requirements
    Risk assessment

Who should prepare a Method Statement?

Anyone who is preparing to oversee a hazardous task, for example in the construction industry, should write this safety statement before the work begins. It should be written by someone who has a clear idea of how the work will be carried out and what safety measures will be involved. It should be prepared in conjunction with those who are involved in the task.
